Sunday School

Making Jesus' message come alive in caring ways!

Sunday School meets year around and cultivates children's experience of the Divine through community, prayer, sacred narratives, imagination, reflection, play, art, and engaging music.

The Kindergarten through 2nd grade class meets in Room 3 with lead teacher Emalie Kane, "B.S. Education". Grades 3 through 5 meet in Room 2.


Nursery
Care for infants and children ages 2 and 3 is provided in Room 4 from 9:45 am through the 10:15 am service. Child care for other church events can be arranged.

New Youth Worship

The second Sunday of each month is Youth Sunday at our Church. Everyone gathers in the large sanctuary at 10:15 am and our youth participate in leading the service. At 10:30, children and youth adjourn to Sunday School and the Youth Discussion group in Rooms 1,2, &3. On other Sundays, children and youth gather for Youth Worship at 10:15 in Vance Chapel. Gale Prol starts us off with engaging music. Classes meet at 10:30.

Adults

Christian Education Time meets at 9:20 am most Sundays, September – May, in Rooms 5/6. Topics and leaders vary.

Pastor's Study meets at 10 am on Wednesday, most weeks, in McNear Hall. Presentation followed by lively discussion.

EFM (Exploring Faith Meaningfully), hosted here, offers an eight-month course each fall. Class meets 1-4 pm on Tuesdays.

Advent and Lenten Study Series

Casas Adobes Forum presents qualified speakers on topical issues at 11:30 am on third Sunday of most months.

Progressive Christian Theology meets at 9:30 am on third Tuesday of most months.

Women's Covenant Group meets 9:30- 11:30 am on second and fourth Tuesdays.

  • UCC Chaplains train to focus on PTSD, moral injury
    The United Church of Christ is working to give military chaplains the tools they need to counsel and support those in service to our country suffering from moral injury. To do that, the church is centering a biennial training session around an expert on the subject, the Rev. Rita Nakashima Brock, to help the chaplains better minister to the brave men and women who have sustained invisible wounds while serving in the armed forces.
  • UCC pastor, Boston Marathon bombing survivor runs again on Easter Monday
    Easter is a time of resurrection, of spiritual reflection, rebirth and renewal. For the Rev. Cheryl Kerr, who calls the south Boston area home, those concepts will fuel her determination on Easter Monday, when she lines up with 36,000 athletes to run the Boston Marathon, and finish it this time. It's something this mother of three young children says she needs to do to heal, as a commitment to a different future.

    As people living in the United States, and as Christians, we should work to understand the connection between the mining of natural resources in Guatemala and in other parts of the world, including the United States, and the greed of corporations and individuals.
